All About Sesame Place, SoCal’s Newest Theme Park

1. Opening March 26! Mark your calendar for March 2022

The park is opening Saturday, March 26 and tickets and season passes are already on sale. Right now, tickets are 25% off at $59.99 per person (regularly $79.99). Children 23 months & younger are free. Season passes range $129-$282. Each pass includes free parking, free guest tickets, and special discounts for in-park purchases.

2. It’s the first Sesame Place on the West Coast

Located just south of San Diego in Chula Vista, the new 17-acre park will be the second Sesame Place location in the country (the other one is in Philadelphia).

3. The park is a Certified Autism Center

Sesame Place Philadelphia was the first theme park in the world to open as a Certified Autism Center (CAC) as designated by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES).

Sesame Place San Diego will also have the same designation, which means staff-wide autism sensitivity and awareness training will be completed prior to the park’s debut. Plus, pre-visit planning resources, including a park-specific sensory guide will be featured on their website, making it easier for parents to plan activities that meet their child’s specific needs and accommodations. The park will also have designated quiet spaces.

4. There’s 7 Sesame Street-themed rides

Perfect for families and kids of all ages, Sesame Street-themed attractions include:

Elmo’s Rockin’ Rockets – fly up, down, and all around
Sunny Day Carousel – classic ride for all ages
Cookie Climb – kids pull themselves up to the top of towers
Abby’s Fairy Flight – swing ride
Rosita’s Harmony Hills – interactive musical play area
Rub-A-Dub Sub – goes around and around both forward and backward
Sesame Street Soar & Spin – bird’s eye view of the park
Super Grover’s Box Car Derby – family-friendly coaster

5. Water attractions open Memorial Day weekend

Like other water parks around, the 11 re-imagined water attractions at Sesame Place will open seasonally around Memorial Day.

Bert’s Topsy Turvy – tube and open-air slides
Big Bird’s Beach – wave pool with sandy beach (one of the largest in SoCal!)
Big Bird’s Rambling River – lazy river
Cookie’s Monster Mixer – 6-story family raft ride
Elmo’s Silly Sand Slides – 6 slippery slides
Ernie’s Twisty Turny Tunnels – tube and open-air slides
Honker Dinger Dash – water slide with a mat
Oscar’s Rotten Rafts – family raft ride
Snuffy’s Spaghetti Slides – 60-foot body slides
The Count’s Splash Castle – multi-level structure with water bucket drop

6. Explore the interactive Sesame Street Neighborhood

The park features an interactive Sesame Street Neighborhood complete with the iconic 123 Stoop. Kids can play in a world that plays back!

Play a game at the Bike Shop window, talk to the Two-Headed Monster at the pipe telephone, ring Bert & Ernie’s doorbell, knock on Oscar’s Trash Can, and listen to stories at Big Bird’s Nest!
