Drum Barracks Civil War Museum
The Drum Barracks Civil War Museum teaches the history of the Civil War, with an emphasis on California’s role in the conflict. The museum is housed in the last remaining wooden building of the original Drum Barracks (named after Lt. Col. Richard C. Drum), which served as the main staging, training, and supply base for the Union Army and military operation in the Southwest.
Visitors can tour the courtyard, parlor, armory, barracks room and more. Public tours are offered on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. All visitors must accompany a guided tour.
KG Tip: Visit for a Civil War Christmas on December 2nd and enjoy self-guided tours of the museum, a Civil War brass band, Victorian parlor singers, children’s crafts, special exhibitions and displays, and horse-drawn trolley rides.
